It’s Not A Myth… Hercules The Musical Is Coming To The West End!

Get ready for the epic quest of a true hero as Hercules bursts onto the stage in London’s West End! Coming to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2025, this new Disney musical adaptation features the iconic tunes from the original Disney film including 'Go The Distance', 'I Won’t Say (I’m in Love)', and 'Zero to Hero' as well as some brand-new songs. Don’t miss your chance to see the legend brought to life, grab your tickets now!

From Zero To Hero: The Story Of Hercules

The legend of Hercules is one of the most famous tales from Greek mythology. It follows the life and adventures of the son of Zeus, king of the gods, and the mortal woman Alcmene. Although he was half-human, it was clear that Hercules was blessed with extraordinary strength and courage. When he was only 8 months old, the goddess Hera sent two giant snakes to kill Hercules. But when he was found by his nurse, he had strangled them to death with his bare bands and was playing with them as if they were toys.

Most famously, Hercules became known for enduring the "Twelve Labours," a series of nearly impossible tasks he was forced to undertake. These challenges, such as slaying the Nemean Lion, capturing the Golden Hind, and retrieving Cerberus from the underworld, cemented Hercules’ status as a symbol of resilience, redemption, and heroism.

Going The Distance: From Legend, To Film, To Musical

Disney’s hit animated film Hercules debuted in 1997. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the film followed young Hercules and his journey from zero to hero, with characters like the fiery Hades, the quick-witted Megara, and his satyr sidekick Phil, voiced by the iconic Danny DeVito. Known for its vibrant animation and catchy gospel-inspired soundtrack by Alan Menken and David Zippel, the movie marked a departure from Disney’s traditional fairy tale formula.

In 2019, Disney Theatrical Productions collaborated with The Public Theater in New York to bring Hercules to the stage as a musical. The stage adaptation retains Menken and Zippel’s iconic music while expanding Hercules’ story to explore themes of heroism, community, and self-discovery in an exciting new light. After a successful run in New York, the production crossed the seas to make its European premiere in Hamburg, Germany. Now, four years since its first performance, Disney’s Hercules arrives in the West End, bringing Hercules’ legendary tale to a whole new audience.
