Matilda The Musical tells the story of an exceptionally bright young girl who discovers her love of reading, despite her unsupportive and cruel parents. At her new school, she finds an understanding ally in her teacher Miss Honey. Yet the terrifying headmistress Miss Trunchbull makes life difficult for everyone, ruthlessly intimidating both students and teachers.

Everything changes when Matilda discovers she has an extraordinary power. She decides it's finally time to teach the grown-ups a lesson. Watch out, the children are revolting!

From Page To Screen To Stage…

The character of Matilda first came to life in 1988 in Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s novel of the same name, illustrated by Quentin Blake. It has since become a classic story, winning the 1989 Red House Children’s Book Award, the 2000 Blue Peter Book Award, and being listed in Time Magazine’s ‘100 Best Young-Adult Books Of All Time’.

The book was then adapted into a musical with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly. After a twelve-week trial run staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-Upon-Avon from November 2011 to January 2011, it received its West End premiere in November 2011 and its Broadway premiere in April 2013 at the Shubert Theatre. The West End musical went on to win seven 2012 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. At the time, this was the highest number of awards ever won by a single show. At the 2013 Tony Awards, the show won five further awards.
