The long-awaited final chapter of British political satire is finally coming to the West End, and it’s as cunning, cutting, and catastrophically funny as ever! Starring Griff Rhys Jones and Clive Francis, this play is brimming with razor-sharp wit, nostalgic brilliance and more doublespeak than a press briefing… Coming to the Apollo Theatre from 29 Jan 2026, book now!
What Is I’m Sorry Prime Minister About?
Jim Hacker is back — older, but perhaps not wiser, and still utterly baffled by the real world. Hoping for a quiet retirement at the tranquil Hacker College, Oxford, Jim instead finds himself facing the ultimate modern crisis: being cancelled by the college committee.
Enter the delightfully devious Sir Humphrey Appleby, who has lost none of his love for bureaucracy, Latin phrases, and well-timed obstruction.
Can Humphrey outmanoeuvre the meddling students, the Fellowship, and reality itself?
Or is it finally time to say, "I’m Sorry, Prime Minister..."?
Yes Minister; Yes, Prime Minister; And I’m Sorry, Prime Minister
Yes Minister was originally a British political satire sitcom written by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn. Comprising three seven-episode series, it was first transmitted from 1980 to 1984. The subsequent sequel, Yes, Prime Minister, ran for 16 episodes from 1986 to 1988.
The series has since been adapted for radio, aired numerous Christmas specials, a new series on Gold in 2013, and received several BAFTAS.
Jay and Lynn collaborated again to produce the stage play Yes, Prime Minister, which ran from May to June 2010 at Chichester Festival Theatre before transferring to the Gielgud Theatre that September. The sequel, I’m Sorry, Prime Minister, I Can’t Quite Remember, was first performed in 2023 and focused on an ageing retired Hacker and Sir Humphrey. It even featured Clive Francis in the role of Humphrey, which he reprises in this new production!
