The Devil Wears Prada musical follows the story of Andy, a fresh college graduate who lands a job at the prestigious Runway magazine under the formidable editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly. Sacrificing her personal life to meet Miranda's outlandish demands, Andy finds herself entangled in the glamorous world she once scorned. The question is, how far will she go to succeed, and is it worth selling her soul for her dreams?
Gird Your Loins! The History of The Devil Wears Prada Musical
The Devil Wears Prada was initially a novel published in 2003 by Lauren Weisberger. Drawing on her own experience as a personal assistant for American Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Weisberger drew back the curtain on the inner workings of the cut-throat fashion world. The novel received much critical acclaim and spent six months on the New York Times bestseller list before being adapted in a major blockbuster movie.
Created in 2006, The Devil Wears Prada movie most notably featured Meryl Streep. Streep earned a Golden Globe award for Best Actress and an Academy Award Nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of Miranda Priestly, the influential, yet terrifying, editor-in-chief of Runway. The cast also included Anne Hathaway in the lead role of Andrea Sachs, Emily Blunt as Miranda’s Senior Assistant Emily, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel, Runway’s Art Director.
In 2015, it was rumoured that Broadway producer Kevin McCollum signed a deal with Fox to develop some of its films into musicals, most notably, Mrs Doubtfire and The Devil Wears Prada. It was confirmed in 2017 that McCollum was working with musical legend Elton John and Shaina Taub to develop The Devil Wears Prada musical. The world premiere of the musical, after numerous postponements due to Covid, opened in July 2022 at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago.
In September 2023, it was announced that the musical will have its UK premiere at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth before transferring to the Dominion Theatre in October 2024.

Tony Award nominee Vanessa Williams (Into The Woods, Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives) plays the iconic role of Miranda Priestly, the undisputed Queen of Fashion and Editor-in-Chief of Runway Magazine. She is joined by Stevie Doc (winner of ITV’s Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream and WhatsOnStage Award nominee for her performance as Sophie in Mamma Mia!) as Andy, Taila Halford (Shucked, School of Rock) as the fiery, fashion-forward Emily, Matt Henry (Kinky Boots) as Nigel, Keelan McAuley (Clueless the Musical) as Nate, and James Darch (Mamma Mia!) as Christian.
