More Information about Midge Ure
Midge Ure is a pioneering figure in British music, known for his influential work as a solo artist, frontman of Ultravox, and co-writer of the global charity anthem Do They Know It’s Christmas?. With a career spanning decades, Ure has left an indelible mark on the worlds of synthpop, new wave, and electronic rock.
After early stints with bands like Slik and Rich Kids, Ure joined Ultravox in 1979, helping to reshape the group’s sound and leading them into commercial and critical success. The band’s groundbreaking 1981 hit Vienna remains one of the most iconic singles of the era, while albums like Rage in Eden and Quartet helped define the sound of the early '80s. Ure’s solo career has been equally impactful, with his debut album The Gift (1985) featuring the UK No.1 single If I Was.
Beyond his musical achievements, Ure played a key role in organising Live Aid and Band Aid, cementing his legacy as both an artist and humanitarian. Renowned for his emotive vocals, innovative production, and powerful stage presence, Midge Ure continues to tour, record, and inspire generations of musicians and fans alike.
